Lagos, Nigeria | July 29, 2025
OneBarrow International Ltd, in collaboration with iDoctorAccess CareLink, has formally documented its leadership in the design and implementation of the 5KM Doctor Access Initiative, a transformative health equity model that integrates licensed visiting doctors into local pharmacies and diagnostic labs to deliver accessible, preventive healthcare to underserved communities.
Following months of technical discussions and strategic alignment with MedPlus Cares Foundation, the engagement was formalized after several rounds of negotiation on July 19, 2025. The agreement was officially executed through a circumvention-based Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 29, 2025.
The model was structured to deploy doctors six days per week to designated pharmacy locations, delivering primary care at the community level. This solution also aimed to provide the MedPlus Foundation with the operational credibility and infrastructure required to scale its health equity efforts and enhance its visibility to global philanthropic institutions including the Ford Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Rockefeller Foundation, and Skoll Foundation.
Despite the strategic merit, implementation faced resistance from MedPlus’ Head of Operations, who raised concerns regarding the presence of visiting doctors in retail stores. Throughout the process, OneBarrow maintained a posture of good-faith engagement, providing regulatory clarification, clinical safeguards, and stakeholder alignment strategies to address all operational and professional concerns.
As part of its compliance and ethics framework, OneBarrow initiated consultations with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, and relevant state Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agencies. Through these engagements, consensus was reached that the preventive care model could be co-hosted by two distinct legal entities iDoctorAccess CareLink as the care delivery partner, and MedPlus Cares Foundation as the host infrastructure partner. This co-hosting structure was acknowledged as compliant with existing regulations and did not compromise the professional integrity of either the medical or pharmaceutical bodies.
Key Features of the 5KM Doctor Access Initiative

• Use of the iDoctorAccess digital platform for EMR, prescriptions, and e-referrals
• Coordination with Primary Health Centres, Federal Medical Centres, and NHIA-partnered facilities
• Structured integration of diaspora volunteer support for outreach campaigns

Leadership Statement
“Our goal is not just to deliver healthcare. It is to build systems that connect trust, technology, and community impact. This public release is a matter of transparency and ownership, ensuring that those who pioneered this model are properly acknowledged,” said Yemi Ajao, CEO of OneBarrow International Ltd.
“We took every step to ensure this model respects legal frameworks, uplifts local talent, and gives Nigeria a scalable solution for preventive care,” said Oyenike Oyetunji, Co-Founder and CFO of iDoctorAccess CareLink.
